An Old Town By The Sea: Budva, Montenegro

Before I traveled through the Balkans, I always pictured them looking like Communist-era Eastern Europe: dark, cold, and starkly utilitarian.

Perhaps this is why I spent the entire road trip agog, staggered by the pristine beauty of Bosnian lakes, Slovenian mountains and a Montenegrin coastline dotted with palm trees.

I know so many of you are in the icy grip of winter right now, so I thought we could all escape for a little bit to the sunny shores of Budva, Montenegro.

Wishing you a beautiful weekend, dear ones! xo

Krista -  It was jaw-dropping for me too, dear Duchess! Just couldn’t believe this little jewel of a place was in Montenegro. 🙂

Krista -  Yes you DO, dear Jeanne! It is absolutely wondrous. 🙂

Duchess - Oh dear lord! Its Exquisite!

Jeanne @ CookSister! - Oh how gorgeous!  I SO need to explore the coast of Croatia and Montenegro!!!  Thanks for sharing 🙂

Krista -  Oh yes, dear Val! You would love it. 🙂

Krista -  I’m SO glad to hear that, Chaya! I hope you get to go very soon. 🙂

Krista -  Isn’t it surprising, Faith? I was so amazed and delighted. 🙂

Krista -  Thank you so much, AstraLibris! 🙂

Krista -  I loved it too, Chava! 🙂

Krista -  I really would, Vanessa. The Old Town itself is very beautiful – as you can see – but there’s the coastline and GORGEOUS drives through the countryside. And if you somehow get bored, Croatia and Albania are only short drives away. 🙂

Krista - Oh that’s great, Alina!!! 🙂

Krista -  And I had the opposite experience with my travels, Julia. 🙂 I didn’t get nearly as far East into Europe as I wanted. But one day I will! 🙂

Krista -  I’m so glad it has that effect on you too, Joanne. 🙂 It has been in my dreams ever since I left. 🙂

Krista -  Yes you do, Deanna!!! It is well worth every hair-raising bit of road-tripping adventure to get there. 🙂

Krista -  Thank you, Cathy! It WAS a beautiful weekend – good times at home, great times with friends, lots of good rest. 🙂

More from An Old Town by the Sea: Budva, Montenegro » Rambling Tart - […] from An Old Town by the Sea: Budva, Montenegro Returning vicariously to Budva, Montenegro in this post last week was so inspiring, that I have to linger a bit longer […]

bellini - I can see myself walking down that path to the sea.

Faith - This is not at all what I pictured for that area…warm and inviting, sunny and cozy-feeling.  Absolutely gorgeous, Krista!

Chaya - As usual, what beautiful pictures.  Based on these, I want to go to the Balkans, too.

AstraLibris - Oooohhhhh, your photos are amazing as always… 🙂 Gorgeous!!!

Chava Sonnier - WOW!! Breathtaking!!!

Vanessa@Luxuria - OMG! Yes, I needed to see these gorgeous sunny images as I shiver here in Spain!
I never realized Montenegro was so gorgeous. Would you recommend it for a short holiday? Is there enough to see?

Alina - You totally convinced me to go there1

Turkey's For Life - Looks absolutely stunning. We travelled through Eastern Europe a few years back but didn’t make it that far west because of time and weather restrictions. At least we know now it’s worth our effort to go back and explore further.

Joanne - You know…I would not have pictured the Balkans to be that gorgeous either.  But oh my god, I am CAPTIVATED.

Cathy - I agree with Deanna.  Just beautiful.  I would love to go there and explore.  Wishing you a beautiful weekend 🙂

Deanna - My jaw dropped. I never realized I need to go there but now I NEED TO GO RIGHT NOW. Stunning pictures as usual.
